The dye initially has a high local concentration. Random molecular motion produces a net spread into regions containing less dye, so the color becomes more even. Temperature is the comparison variable: the warmer sample is expected to spread faster, but this demonstration does not measure a diffusion coefficient and convection caused by temperature differences or accidental movement can contribute.
Keep glass size, water volume, dye volume, lighting, and position constant; repeat each temperature condition several times; include an unstirred control. Do not claim that βno visible colorβ means no diffusion: it may simply be below visual detection. More controlled diffusion studies use separated compartments or membranes and measure concentration in the receiving side over time.
