The 2026 field study monitored two chambers for 136 recording days and divided observations into P1βP4. A. flavicollis remained predominantly nocturnal and initiated all reported interspecific agonistic encounters; A. agrarius shifted away from nocturnal activity in P2 and P4. In those periods, it visited significantly fewer clock-hours during which A. flavicollis was active: P2, p=0.019; P4, p=0.033.
βMinutes after civil duskβ requires each visit to be transformed as visit time β that dayβs civil-dusk time, followed by a comparison of the two speciesβ activity distributions across P1βP4. The supplied results provide civil-twilight definitions and supplementary dawn/dusk times, but not the required event-level transformed data, effect estimates, confidence intervals, or a model testing clock time against photoperiod-relative time. Thus, the evidence supports temporal niche segregation, not specifically a dusk-anchored rule.
Confidence: moderate that avoidance occurred in P2 and P4; low that it was coordinated by minutes after dusk. Seasonal changes are relevant: mean daytime length increased from 650.1 minutes in P3 to 813.4 minutes in P4, while maximum temperature increased from 3.1Β°C to 8.4Β°C, so fixed clock-hour comparisons could be confounded by changing light and temperature. However, the studyβs single peri-urban site, two chambers, observational design, and approximately 15 interspecific encounters limit causal and general conclusions.
A stronger test would compare competing models using the complete timestamped data: fixed clock time, minutes after dusk, minutes before dawn, and light intensity, with period, temperature, chamber, and individual identity accounted for.
