The eight papers span taxonomy, single-cell genomics, plant biotechnology, energy harvesting, oncology spatial omics, clinical oncology, and insect transcriptomics. Ranked by reported quality scores, the rectal cancer retrospective cohort (506 patients, 2014β2024) leads at 8/10 despite its single-center retrospective design and underpowered M1 subgroup (post-hoc power 0.338) , followed by the tooth-atlas computational study (7/10) with 261,929 core cells and public code/data links .
The TrajDTW benchmark is the most decisive quantitative evidence: under temporal displacement Ξ=0.10β0.30, mean average precision fell from 0.862 to 0.398 for TrajDTW versus 0.750 to 0.243 for Pearson correlation . By contrast, the sweetpotato IbAATP study reports large causal effects (starch +26.7β57.3%, P<0.01) but with inferred gaps: no empty-vector control, n=3 unspecified independence, one cultivar, one season . The Distoseptispora taxonomy paper is well-measured (>30 structures/character) but has missing RPB2/TEF1 loci for some species and incomplete genus-wide sampling .
Three recurring limitations deserve emphasis. First, causal inference is weakest where claims are strongest: the SPP1+ macrophage/TACE-resistance mechanism rests on correlative clinical data plus in vitro THP-1 assays with no in vivo perturbation, and mIF responder/non-responder arms were only n=5 each . Second, the nanogenerator study demonstrates power densities (0.34 mW/g TENG, 0.12 mW/g EMG) and wireless sensing only on a bench shaker, never on a running train, without replicates or uncertainty estimates . Third, transcriptomic papers (sweet potato salt stress; Helicoverpa metamorphosis) use only 2 biological replicates or purely descriptive DEG counts without functional validation . Falsification paths are clear in each record: expanded RPB2/TEF1 sampling, independent transgenic replication, prospective TACE cohorts, and on-train field testing would each directly test the core claims. Confidence: moderate overallβquantitative claims are well-documented, but several central causal interpretations outstrip their correlational evidence.
